It was not meant to be. The SG Flensburg-Handewitt lost at SC Magdeburg and will miss the Lidl Final 4 for the DHB Cup this season. The sound bites.
Johannes Golla, SG captain: "We didn't cover well enough in defense at the beginning. We let Magdeburg through too easily. Then we stabilized our defense, but the easy mistakes in attack became more frequent. If you throw the ball away, Magdeburg punishes you immediately. We were stronger in defense in the second half and a few saves helped us. But we couldn't really get close. We have to acknowledge Magdeburg's strength, but also be so self-critical that we made too many easy mistakes up front. Now we're disappointed and annoyed that we won't be there in Cologne. But we have to look ahead again quickly, as we'll continue in Göppingen."
Aleš Pajović, SG Coach: "Congratulations on the clear win. Of course we're disappointed, but we knew it would be tough. And it's even harder with so many mistakes. We tried a lot, but it wasn't good enough from us - especially if Magdeburg plays a perfect game again."
