- The SG faces a challenge at MT Melsungen on Friday evening

From "Hölle Nord" to northern Hesse

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt continue their three-day rhythm. For its next task in the DAIKIN HBL, it has to leave the far north after three home games in a row and assert itself at MT Melsungen. Kick-off in Kassel is at 8 p.m. on Friday.

The game against AHC Potaissa Turda was fun, but had to be put behind them quickly. Yesterday, Wednesday, the SG squad met for a rather regenerative training session and an extensive video analysis. And today, Thursday, they will hit the highway in the morning to travel to northern Hesse. "It's a tough away game," said Aleš Pajović. "We can only survive there if we manage to deliver our performance." He himself has never been to Kassel with his current team. The last matches played there were before the SG coach's tenure. The list includes two defeats and two draws - the last away win came in March 2022. Aleš Pajovic is less concerned with the past than with the current line-up of the opponents. He is reckoning with seven outfield players in Melsungen's attack, but does not really know who could start. MT has had a lot of bad luck with injuries this season. Even former SG player Aaron Mensing has yet to play a minute.

Squad and tactics
SG were able to rest a number of players on Tuesday. Blaž Blagotinšek, Simon Pytlick and Domen Novak were left out completely, while Emil Jakobsen only played a few moments. It was annoying that Luca Witzke had to retire early due to an as yet undefined injury. Marko Grgić, on the other hand, was right in the thick of things. He knows that a completely different dance awaits him and his teammates on Friday. "Melsungen plays a physical defense that could wear us out if we have to go on the positional attack very often," he explained. "It would therefore be good if we can score as many easy goals as possible with good defending and a fast tempo." MT Melsungen won 28:25 in Budapest on Tuesday, although several key players were missing through injury. Even 41-year-old assistant coach Isaias Guardiola came into action.
