SG Flensburg-Handewitt has completed the second phase of its preseason preparations. After spending the first few days at home, the entire squad traveled to Malmö for a training camp. Everything went according to plan.
The SG delegation arrived in Malmö on Wednesday afternoon. All players were present except for Kent Robin Tønnesen (shingles) and Moritz Detlefsen (U18 European Championship). Immediately after arriving, there was still enough time for a strength training session. The mornings over the following days were devoted to handball, while the afternoons focused primarily on athletic conditioning. “The arena, weight room, hotel, and food were perfect,” said SG Coach Aleš Pajović happily. “It was also important that the beds were big enough, because my guys needed plenty of sleep.” Preparation like this is, after all, very strenuous and exhausting. A nice surprise: Thilo Knutzen, who has just transferred to HK Malmö, also stopped by.
Handball, Strength Training, and Team Building
On Saturday, the team held what will be their last handball session for now. “But a training camp like this isn’t just about tactics and physical conditioning,” emphasizes Aleš Pajović. “Team building is also very important for fostering camaraderie among the players.” That’s why there was also a padel tournament on Saturday afternoon—played in the “Americano” format, where partners were switched nonstop. In the final tally, Emil Jakobsen and Lasse Møller came out on top. Afterward, there was time for a hearty team dinner. The return trip was on the schedule for Sunday. Today, Monday, the team traveled to Damp for medical examinations. Tomorrow, Tuesday, the first exhibition game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. The opponent at the Handewitter Wikinghalle will be the Danish runner-up, SAH Aarhus.
