SG Flensburg-Handewitt is currently at its training camp in Sweden. Afterward, fans can look forward to their first highlight. The SG will face top Danish club SAH Aarhus next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Tactics, shots, strength, and endurance—the SG is currently in the midst of preparing for the new season. Soon, they’ll reach a new level: their first test on the court. “A game is different from practice; you get new feedback,” says Aleš Pajović enthusiastically. According to the SG coach, the focus is on integrating the four new signings: Emil Bergholt, Simon Möller, Arnar Freyr Arnarsson, and Aymeric Minne will all be giving fans their first glimpse of their skills. They’ll face Skanderborg-Aarhus Handbold, or SAH for short. In the last season, the two teams met in the EHF European League. The SG won that match, while the Danish club ultimately qualified for the EHF Champions League as runners-up. Among the Jutland team’s ranks is a very familiar face: Johan Hansen. The right wing played for the SG from 2022 to 2025.
Historic Venue
The match takes on special appeal thanks to its venue. The Wikinghalle in Handewitt is the “original Hölle Nord,” where the SG played its Bundesliga home games until 1995. “Dierk Schmäschke showed me a few videos from back then,” says Aleš Pajović. “The spectators sat really close to the court. It reminded me of Celje, where I played in a small arena as a 17- or 18-year-old and every seat was filled.” Last year marked “50 Years of the Wikinghalle.” Twelve months ago, the SG played a friendly against DHK Flensborg. Their partner club is back again and will face third-division rival TSV Altenholz starting at 5:30 p.m.
