SG Flensburg-Handewitt finished the 2025–26 season in third place with a record of 51–17. On the final matchday of the DAIKIN HBL, they lost to Füchse Berlin 38-43 (20-22). The SG’s top scorers were Simon Pytlick (11) and Emil Jakobsen (8/5).
You couldn’t ask for a better start: Emil Jakobsen converted a seven-meter throw, and Marko Grgić scored from the backcourt. Then Benjamin Burić, who was partnering with the newly minted SG legend Kevin Møller for the last time, made his first save. The SG switched gears quickly, with Simon Pytlick racing through for a 3-0 lead. The SG consistently built on their advantage. The statisticians recorded a 90 percent efficiency rate in the first ten minutes. The visitors actually led 9-5 in Berlin. The numerous SG fans in attendance were ecstatic when Simon Pytlick pushed the score into double digits. Of course, things couldn’t stay perfect. Füchse Berlin picked up the pace and frequently found success through their star player Mathias Gidsel—as they did on the 12-14 play. The SG responded with the fifth goal by Niclas Kirkeløkke, who made his 100th appearance for the SG on Thursday. At 18:18, the Füchse Berlin tied the game for the first time and went into the locker room with a 22:20 lead.
The final quarter-hour belonged to Berlin
. The SG started the second half trailing by two goals. The high-scoring action continued. In the 34th minute, four goals were scored. Emil Jakobsen tied the game at 24:24. After that, however, the SG fell behind again. The Füchse punished two turnovers mercilessly and pulled ahead 30-26. Aleš Pajović hit the buzzer and called a team timeout. Things promptly improved. Kevin Møller made several saves in his final SG game. Simon Pytlick tied the game again at 31:31. What a flurry of goals—there were still 17 minutes left to play! Then the setbacks piled up. Domen Novak couldn’t participate in the final stretch because he needed treatment on his shoulder. His replacement, Aksel Horgen, narrowed the gap to 36:38. Marko Grgić added another goal. However, a comeback was no longer possible. The Berliners sealed the deal. To make matters worse, Blaž Blagotinšek received a red card after a foul. Simon Pytlick scored the SG’s final goal of the season. “This last game was a reflection of the season,” said Emil Jakobsen. “We had a lot of really good moments. But there were also times when we weren’t ourselves.”
