- SG celebrates an international evening with an anniversary

Victory and 50,000 goals

The fourth win in the fourth match of the EHF European League: SG Flensburg-Handewitt beat AHC Potaissa Turda 46:28 (22:15) on Tuesday evening. The SG's top scorers were Patrick Volz (10/1), Marko Grgić (8) and Johannes Golla (7).

After the final training session, Aleš Pajović decided to give Blaž Blagotinšek a break and broaden the youngster squad. The starting line-up had a completely different look to the one in the top-of-the-table game against Magdeburg on Saturday. Luca Witzke led the attack. Wingers Patrick Volz and Aksel Horgen also started and were among the first goalscorers. The SG came out of the starting blocks in a flash. After just nine minutes, the score was already 7:2. AHC Potaissa took an early team timeout and opted for an offense with seven players. The visitors from Romania received a round of applause for a successful Kempa trick. The SG controlled proceedings, but were initially unable to pull further ahead. After 20 minutes, Thilo Knutzen joined in - initially together with Marko Grgić. The SG then played with both left-handers at the back. Johannes Golla scored to make it 19:10 - the highest lead in the first half.

24 goals in the second half
The second half began with a lot of "Humba, humba, tätärä". Lukas Jørgensen scored twice from the halfway line into the orphaned visitors' goal. Thilo Knutzen increased the lead to 25:16, but a ten-goal advantage did not materialize for the time being as a few chances were missed and the team did not cover as attentively at the back. There was brief confusion when Turda suddenly had eight players on the pitch. Patrick Volz had particular fun in the ensuing overtime as he scored twice. Marko Grgić scored with force: 31:21, the first ten-goal cushion. It was a lively game with many SG goals. Johannes Golla scored from the circle to make it 35:23 and there were cheers when Catalin Haidu, the SG's young Romanian keeper, was allowed to play the last ten minutes against his compatriots. U17 world champion Moritz Detlefsen appeared shortly afterwards. The goal-hungry Patrick Volz completed the 40. But there was to be another very special goal. Marko Grgić made it 44:28 - SG's 50,000th competitive goal since 1990 - and Moritz Detlefsen opened the scoring for the next 50,000. In short: It was a well-rounded evening of handball.
