SG Flensburg-Handewitt and assistant coach Simon Hennig are continuing their partnership. The 34-year-old has extended his contract through 2027 and will thus remain part of the coaching staff of the Handball Bundesliga club.
Hennig took over the position of assistant coach alongside head coach Aleš Pajović for the 2025–26 season. Prior to that, he spent many years working in the club’s youth program and, as a youth coach and sports director of the SG Flensburg Academy, played a key role in developing numerous talented players. He has been supporting the Bundesliga coaching staff in training and match operations with analyses and statistical evaluations since the summer of 2023.
SG Managing Director Holger Glandorf says: “Simon has quickly and effectively integrated himself into our coaching staff in his role as assistant coach. He works in a highly structured manner, brings a great deal of expertise to the table, and knows SG Flensburg-Handewitt inside and out. The contract extension is a logical step and an expression of our confidence in our shared athletic journey.”
SG Head Coach Aleš Pajović adds: “I really enjoy working with Simon. He’s very dedicated, lives and breathes handball, and brings new ideas to the table every day. For me, it’s important to have an assistant coach by my side whom I can rely on at all times. I’m delighted that we’re continuing on this journey together.”
For Simon Hennig, the contract extension is also an expression of a special connection. A native of Flensburg, he has been part of the SG since childhood, came up through the club’s youth teams, and knows the organization’s structure both as a player and as a coach. Consequently, continuing this collaboration is of great significance to him. “I’m very happy that my time with the SG is continuing. I’ve been with this club since I was a child, which is why this contract extension naturally means a great deal to me. I’m grateful for the trust and appreciation shown for my work. Together with the coaching staff and the team, I’ll continue on the path we’ve set out on and steadily advance our development step by step,” said Hennig.
