As expected, SG Flensburg-Handewitt have reached the quarter-finals of the EHF European League. However, they had to settle for a 33:33 (16:13) draw against SAH in the second leg of the play-off round. The SG's top scorers were Emil Jakobsen (7/4), Lasse Møller (6) and Johannes Golla (6).
The SG went into the second leg with a six-goal lead. It was seven straight away, as Johannes Golla opened the scoring. Simon Pytlick did not play. Even without him, his teammates quickly took control of the game. After missing the first leg, Johan Hansen was now present. The former SG number 26 received a special round of applause at the run-in ceremony. Johan Hansen was allowed to take a seven-meter penalty in the opening spell - and was denied by Benjamin Burić. The SG keeper was an outstanding back-up and saved an impressive ten shots in the first quarter of an hour. As a result, the cushion grew quickly. When Niclas Kirkeløkke made it 5:1, the gap was ten goals for the first time. After 14 minutes, Domen Novak and "Hell North" were even able to celebrate making it 9:3. After that, the SG hit a worse spell. SAH actually equalized to make it 12:12. The SG responded with a 4:0 run. The spectators were able to applaud a 16:13 lead at the break.
Changing course of the game
The SG rotated at the restart. Patrick Volz and Aksel Horgen now played on the wings. Kevin Møller stood in the box. The Dane was unable to prevent his compatriots from catching up again - but at least managed to equalize with two saves. Patrick Volz scored on the counter-attack to make it 20:18 and the SG now raced through "Hell North" again. Johannes Golla made a quick move to win possession in the 6:0 defense and scored from the halfway line into the empty SAH goal. 24:20 - "Hell North" was boiling! However, no lead really lasted in this game. The Danish visitors turned the tide again. The SG took a team timeout at 27:28. The overall victory was not in danger, but the day's win was. The SG took control again with an energetic performance. Lasse Møller made it 33:31 and cheered with the fans. But SAH was not yet beaten. The Danes reduced the deficit, then benefited from a bad pass by SG and equalized again. Then the final whistle blew. A draw!
