Third place for the SG

SG Flensburg-Handewitt took third place at the Hummel Cup. They didn’t give the host team, EHV Aue, a chance and won decisively, 45–29 (18–13).

Due to yesterday’s loss, the SG had to take the court as early as noon. Aymeric Minne was another player rested for the match. On the outskirts of the Ore Mountains, the SG quickly found their rhythm and were already leading 10–4 after 12 minutes. The strategy: positional attacks with seven field players to slow the pace slightly and focus more on their own defense. After leading 16–8 at one point, the favorites hit a rough patch. The crowd in Aue cheered on the third-division team’s strong plays. “Aue had trouble against our defense,” assistant coach Simon Hennig summed up at halftime. “Up front, our timing, plays, and execution were on point at first, before we hit a minor slump with some technical errors.”

High tempo and 27 goals in the second
half They headed into the second half with a five-goal lead. “We quickly got back to our game,” noted Simon Hennig. “Especially with our defense, we had everything under control.” Simon Pytlick finished off a spectacular Kempa move to make it 23–15. Simon Möller was now in goal and had several reasons to celebrate. So did a goal-hungry Lasse Møller, who extended the lead to 37–23. Youngster Onno Buschmann brought the score to 40. The game was a great way for the SG to wrap up the Hummel Cup. “That was really fun today,” said Lasse Møller. “We’re heading home with some important insights and will continue preparing for the new season. A major focus will be on our defensive play.” Next weekend brings the Wartburg Cup, featuring interesting test matches against ThSV Eisenach, TBV Lemgo Lippe, and SC Magdeburg.
