Twelve teams from all continents - the U17 World Championship premiere was held in Morocco. The young German handball players marched confidently through the group matches and semi-finals and met Egypt in the final in Casablanca. The DHB team prevailed 44:43 (37:37, 18:17) after overtime. Moritz Detlefsen was also in the squad. The SG pivot scored four goals during the tournament. SG teammates Klaas Simon and Rune Timmsen and coach Olaf Knüppel were on hand for the final.
Victory and defeat for the DHB selection
The DHB men finished their two test matches against Iceland with mixed results. A furious 42:31 victory on Thursday was followed by a 29:31 defeat on Sunday in front of 10,299 spectators in the sold-out SAP Garden in Munich. "We can be proud of our performance in the first game, because the defense and our goalkeeper Andi Wolff were very strong and the offense was confident," said DHB captain Johannes Golla. "In the second encounter, we lacked the pace that had characterized us in the first encounter." The SG pivot scored a total of seven goals. Marko Grgić scored 10/1 goals.
Confident Danes and the games in the Balkans
The Danish handball team once again performed very confidently. At the Gjensidige Cup in Trondheim, the world champions first defeated hosts Norway (39:33), then the Netherlands (40:24) and the Faroe Islands (39:24). Emil Jakobsen (21/15), Simon Pytlick (19), Lukas Jørgensen (7) and Niclas Kirkeløkke (1) were among the scorers. Kevin Møller guarded the Danish goal. Domen Novak was with the Slovenian handball team in Serbia and was delighted with a narrow 35:34 victory. SG junior keeper Catalin Haidu traveled to Baia Mare and celebrated his senior international debut. He played with Romania against Ukraine (33:30), Georgia (27:30) and Slovakia (33:25).
