The DAIKIN HBL table now has a clear picture. SG Flensburg-Handewitt is second - behind SC Magdeburg. The sound bites.
Aleš Pajović, SG coach: "We got off to a good start and were immediately present. We were leading at the break, even though we made a few unnecessary mistakes and got unfortunate time penalties. You have to be at your best for 60 minutes against SC Magdeburg. However, we had too many problems with tackling and were unable to stop the attack in the second half. We weren't able to run our tempo game enough. We had another chance to turn the game around midway through the second half, but then we couldn't capitalize on two or three attacks. The team fought to the end. We'll keep going and want to keep playing consistently."
Bennet Wiegert, Head Coach SC Magdeburg: "It feels amazing to have come through in this atmosphere. We played what we set out to do in the second half. Flensburg came into the game wider and better. We fought back well, but we robbed ourselves of a better result at the break. We knew at half-time that we couldn't allow ourselves a few bad minutes again - we had to be there immediately. The defense was better adjusted to Simon Pytlick, we had the saves from Sergey Hernandez, but the key to success was our attacking play. We hardly made any mistakes."
Johannes Golla, SG captain: "It's a bitter defeat. We have to be self-critical. We won't put Magdeburg in trouble with this number of mistakes. We didn't reach the highest level with our performance. We played well in the first half, but we messed up the start to the second half. It feels like you have eleven to twelve one-on-one situations in every attack and you lose your footing at some point. Magdeburg pass the ball at exactly the right moment, they've perfected their game. We have to praise the spectators. They were in such a good mood even after the game, as if we had won."
