That was a solid performance. SG Flensburg-Handewitt defeated Lugi Lund 50–21 and showed they’re ready to go for the new season. Here’s what they had to say.
Aleš Pajović, SG Coach: “Lugi Lund was missing three key players. So we shouldn’t read too much into this win. It was great to see the arena again—and especially the fans. We played a very solid game. The seven-on-six and the goalkeepers worked well. The tournament in Eisenach and today’s game highlighted the positive aspects of our preseason preparation. We’re heading into next week in high spirits and want to use this momentum to fuel our training program.”
Emil Bergholt, SG Captain: “We had a lot of fun. You don’t score 50 goals every day. We focused a lot on defense—and it’s getting better and better. Benjamin Burić and, later, Simon Möller played very well. We weren’t satisfied with our preseason preparations up through and including the tournament in Aue. Then we talked a lot and worked hard in practice. Now we’re ready for our first league game.”
Lasse Møller, SG backcourt player: “We wanted to show throughout the entire game that we can play very good handball. There’s definitely been progress in recent weeks. That’s especially true for our defense. We’re confident that we can put up a strong defense despite having a new center block.”
