SG Flensburg-Handewitt recorded its seventh win in a row in the DAIKIN HBL. It won 38:32 (23:20) at ThSV Eisenach on Thursday evening. The visitors' top scorers were Emil Jakobsen (11/2), Marko Grgic (9) and Simon Pytlick (7).
Nice gesture before kick-off: Marko Grgic, who played the last three series for ThSV Eisenach, was given a present, a picture gallery and lots of applause by his former club. Once the whistle blew, the presents were over. Marko Grgic was in the starting line-up - and his team once again got off to a very good start. The 6-0 defense was immediately a source of ball recovery. Emil Jakobsen completed one of the ensuing fast breaks to make it 6:2 - his third goal in barely more than five minutes. Both teams played at a high tempo, with Eisenach now playing well. When the home side played extremely offensively, the ball ended up with Marko Grgic, who scored his first goal of the day directly from the pivot. It was 9:6 and the SG's efficiency remained outstanding. The lead grew as Kevin Møller made a number of saves. After a quarter of an hour, the score was 14:8 and after 23 minutes and a few seconds, the SG's lead was already 2. Marko Grgic scored to make it 20:12 - madness! However, that was followed by a 0:4 in-run, which prompted Aleš Pajović to call a team timeout! However, his players were not able to regain the famous red thread until the break.
With staying power in Eisenach
Lasse Møller was on the court at the restart. Seven-on-six - that was the marshaling plan against the potentially extremely offensive Eisenach cover. Benjamin Burić was now in charge of his own box. He did not have to make a save for over six minutes. The SG managed to calm things down again, even though they conceded a couple of goals into the empty net. Lasse Møller made it 30:24, but there was no real let-up in this cauldron. A great deal of physical effort was required on the floor. When the home side had reduced the deficit to three goals, Aleš Pajović intervened with the buzzer for the second time. It was now a handball fight with numerous interruptions. Eisenach reduced the deficit to 29:31, after which Marko Grgic got back into the game - and how. Within a short space of time, he scored several good shots to put the SG 35:30 in front. The visitors had quick answers. Emil Jakobsen moved into double digits with the score at 36:31. When Benjamin Burić then made a crazy save, the mood in the arena died down. The SG was able to celebrate two points, which sweetened the long journey home.
