- SG Flensburg-Handewitt Pulls Away from Lugi Lund by a Wide Margin

The Jacob Cement Cup Stays in Flensburg

The 24th edition of the Jacob Cement Cup went to SG Flensburg-Handewitt. On Friday evening, they defeated Lugi Lund 50–21 (22–9). The top scorers were Lasse Møller (9), Emil Jakobsen (8), and Patrick Volz (8).

At 6:56 p.m., the team took the court. Emil Bergholt led the line for the first time, clearly excited about his debut in the “Hölle Nord.” With the score at 3–1, the new captain scored his first home goal. Although Benjamin Burić got into the game right away with a few saves, the SG was initially unable to pull ahead. After ten minutes, Lugi Lund tied the score at 5–5. But then the visitors from Sweden couldn’t get past the SG’s defense. The fast breaks kept coming. Fifteen minutes later, the score was 16–5. For Emil Jakobsen, the motto by then was already: “Seven in a row.” Shortly before halftime, Lasse Møller got the crowd fired up with five goals: “Lasse’s taking you down!” The Dane also scored to make it 22–9 at halftime. An extraordinary halftime stat for Benjamin Burić: 15 saves! No wonder the Bosnian was later named the most outstanding player of the day.

Goal deluge in the second half
The SG played with a “wild 13,” meaning a fairly small roster. At times, three right-handers were even called upon simultaneously in the backcourt. Nevertheless, the hosts continued to deliver a convincing performance in front of 3,076 spectators. Niclas Kirkeløkke extended the lead to 28–11. The wing players had switched positions at halftime. Domen Novak was on hand to make it 31–13. Opposite him, Patrick Volz sparked the next round of cheers. Arnar Freyr Arnarsson established the first 20-goal lead. Simon Möller was now in goal. The new signing was clearly having fun against his Swedish compatriots. In the closing minutes, the SG played with seven field players on offense. Aymeric Minne demonstrated his individual class on several occasions. Amid a standing ovation, Patrick Volz reached the 50-goal mark. At the awards ceremony, all three Ziegelstein trophies went to the SG: for the victory, the most outstanding player, and the top scorer.

SG Flensburg-Handewitt: Burić (15 saves), Möller (from the 31st minute, 10 saves) – Pytlick (3), Kirkeløkke (6), Bergholt (4), Grgić (4/1), Horgen, Volz (8), Jakobsen (8), Arnarsson (1), Minne (4), Novak (3), Møller (9)
