SG Flensburg-Handewitt is pleased to welcome Heinemann HNO Medizintechnik GmbH as a new partner. To mark the start of this partnership, Managing Director Frank Spillner shares his motivation and his connection to handball.
For Spillner, handball is a particularly honest sport, which he associates with attributes such as toughness and clarity, yet at the same time fairness. Despite the physical intensity, respect and treating one another as equals are always paramount.
Frank Spillner also attributes his involvement with the SG to his regional ties. As a native of Schleswig-Holstein, he feels it is important to support the sport in his home region. His enthusiasm for the sport goes way back—in particular, he recalls the 1978 World Championship final, when Germany became world champion. For him, it’s clear: “If you’re into sports, love handball, and come from Schleswig-Holstein, then you can’t ignore the big North German clubs. There’s the THW or the SG—and for us, it was always clear: We are SG.”
For Spillner, the SG symbolizes what is possible when a community sticks together. “When the city and region, the team and the community stick together, you can compete at the highest level even without the star power of a (world) metropolis. The club manages to build success out of values like honesty, respect, and hard work—success that goes far beyond what one might expect from a region around Flensburg.” That’s what fascinates him, says Spillner.
When asked about a defining moment with the SG that has stayed with him, Frank Spillner replies: “The first German championship in 2004.” After many years as the “eternal runner-up,” this title was something very special and marked the definitive breakthrough. “I will never forget that moment. With this title, the SG took the final step and showed that it can win everything that is possible in club handball.”
Looking to the future, Spillner wants to strengthen youth work and integration in particular. He believes sports can play an important social role in this regard. At the same time, he emphasizes how much he is looking forward to being part of the SG and actively contributing to the club’s sustainable development and positioning it well for future generations.
SG Managing Director Holger Glandorf also underscores the importance of strong partners alongside the club: “Our shareholders are an essential part of what makes the SG what it is. They provide us with the necessary stability and, at the same time, lay the foundation for our continued development both athletically and structurally. Especially here in the north, where so much revolves around trust and reliability, this close bond is a decisive factor. This makes it all the more valuable to us when companies and individuals identify with our values and are willing to walk this path together with us. Because only through a strong network and a shared understanding of responsibility can we position SG for a sustainable future.”
