Simon Möller came up through the ranks at the long-established Swedish club IK Sävehof. The goalkeeper spent the last two years playing for the French club Fenix Toulouse and has now joined SG Flensburg-Handewitt. Our editorial team spoke with the 26-year-old.
Simon, did you have a nice summer break? How was the move to Flensburg?
Simon Möller: It was truly a wonderful summer. Just the weekend before last, my wife and I got married near Gothenburg. It was a very special day for both of us. We’ll make up for the honeymoon next summer, because we moved to Flensburg just last Wednesday. We now have a nice apartment in the city center, very close to Emil Jakobsen. We just have to get used to the many steps up to the fourth floor. There’s no elevator.
You were born on July 2, 2000, in Lübeck. They say it’s all because of your father Peter’s career…
Simon Möller: Yes, my father played in Bad Schwartau back then, and then for HSV Hamburg. When I was four years old, we moved to Sweden. I’m coming back to Germany, so to speak. I knew a little German back then, which I now have to brush up on. By the way, my father has said he’ll be here by the end of August. That’s when we’ll play our first home game against Eisenach.
Going forward, you’ll form the SG’s goalie duo alongside Benjamin Burić. How well do you know your new teammate?
Simon Möller: I’ve been watching him since 2018, ever since he joined the SG. He’s one of my idols. Judging by what I’ve heard about him, he’s a really great guy. We have slightly different goalkeeping styles, so we’ll complement each other well. I’m looking forward to teaming up with him.
You’ve played in Flensburg before with Sävehof. What are your expectations for the home games?
Simon Möller: We actually won by one goal in Flensburg back then, but unfortunately, the first game carried more weight in the final tally. There was more energy in the arena than in the Swedish league—even though it wasn’t full. In Toulouse, there were 3,000 to 4,000 spectators at the games, and they made a lot of noise. I expect even more in Flensburg. I really enjoy playing together with the fans.
