The two points were satisfying, as was the performance in view of the limited personnel. The biggest downer from the SG Flensburg-Handewitt's point of view was the last quarter of an hour, which cost them a clear win against GWD Minden. The sound bites.
Aleš Pajović, SG Coach: "We showed right from the start that we wanted to win this game. The topic of the week was the defense, I saw progress there. We did that well. The bad thing was that Niclas Kirkeløkke and Simon Pytlick were missing. So the squad was tight and Thilo Knutzen got a lot of playing time. We had a few black minutes in the second half when we missed a few hundred percent chances."
Aaron Ziercke, Head Coach GWD Minden: "When we heard that Flensburg would be missing one or two players, we hoped that we could make it tight. But Flensburg showed that right from the start: We're going to pull this off! It's okay to lose by four goals here. But I would have liked to have seen more belief from my boys that we can achieve something."
Marko Grgić, SG backcourt ace: "It was a focused performance from the very first second - with the exception of the end, when we threw away a big lead. It would have done us good to win by eight or nine goals. However, Minden fought back well and never gave up. Hopefully Niclas Kirkeløkke and Simon Pytlick will come back quickly. You can tell when you only have one player per position available."
Johannes Golla, SG captain: "The result could have been clearer. The defense looked better than before the international break. It was a bit more compact. We had a few unfortunate blocks in the first half and also made a few technical mistakes, otherwise we would have led by more. At the moment, every win is an important step towards the goals we want to achieve."
Emil Jakobsen, SG left wing: "In the first half, we scored a lot of goals from pacey counter-attacks - exactly what we had planned. We had a few agreements, so now it's clearer for everyone what we want to play. We made some changes in the second half, which meant we lost a bit of pace and confidence. It was still a safe win."
