The SG Flensburg-Handewitt is back on home turf and looking forward to its first international opponent this year. They face Montpellier HB in the main round of the EHF European League. Kick-off in the GP JOULE Arena is at 18:45.
May 25 is almost nostalgic. SG's victory in the final against Montpellier HB brings back fond memories, but is hardly suitable for preparing for the current task in the EHF European League. The opponent has changed its face. The coaching team has therefore only used national and international matches from this season to get a good picture. "I expect a physically very tough game," explained Aleš Pajović. "Montpellier is physically very strong in defense, and three playmakers create a lot of tactics in attack." The findings are extensive. The SG coach would like to have two more days to prepare - or at least a three-hour video briefing. But the limited time available requires him to set priorities.
SG coach expects a close result
Montpellier HB won 38:33 against Bidasoa Irun last Tuesday. The top scorers were right wing David Baleguer (10), Swedish left wing Jack Thurin (7/3) and left wing Arthur Lenne (6). With now 2:4 points, the French top club have it in their own hands to advance as third or even second in the EHF European League. On Saturday, MHB won 33:28 against Istres, the bottom team in the French league. The SG also had a five-goal lead in their 34:29 win in Nuremberg. "It will be a close game against Montpellier," believes Aleš Pajović. He is glad that all of his players survived the last game and the long return journey well. Over 5,000 fans will be in attendance in "Hell North". There are only a few seats left. Standing room tickets will also be available at the box office.
