The SG Flensburg-Handewitt is on the road again. This time, however, it's not "just" going to Kassel, but to the Mediterranean coast. At Saint-Raphael Var Handball tomorrow, Tuesday at 6.45 pm, it's all about setting the course in the EHF European League.
This time, the SG squad will travel by charter plane, thus saving a full day's travel. However, they will not skimp on the spoils: The third away win in Season A of the EHF European League is to be claimed in Saint-Raphael. "The boys know that they have to step on the gas," emphasized SG coach Aleš Pajović, recalling that the first leg was "not quite at our level". The final score at the start of the group stage was 32:30 against Saint-Raphael Var Handball. With a win, the SG would definitely qualify for the main round. But it is not yet clear whether they will take 4:0 points with them. Irudek Bidasoa Irun will host the relegated Romanian bottom team AHC Potaissa Turda at 20:45. The club from northern Spain has the edge in the direct duel with Saint-Raphael Var Handball and will visit the GP JOULE Arena next Tuesday.
Without Emil Jakobsen on Tuesday
The Northern Lights will not only have to do without Lasse Møller and Luca Witzke in the south of France, they will also be without Emil Jakobsen. Although examinations of the left winger have not revealed any serious injury to his shoulder, he will be spared - out of consideration for his upcoming tasks in the DAIKIN HBL. Instead, youngster Jonas Rithaphorn will be involved for the second time after the Turda trip. Saint-Raphael Var Handball had to stretch themselves considerably on Saturday to defeat Istres 35:34 in the French league. Aleš Pajović warns against a French-style 6:0 defense. "If we're as focused as we were in Melsungen on Friday, we'll get the two points this time too," believes the SG coach.
