SG Flensburg-Handewitt has moved up to second place in the DAIKIN HBL. It won 36:28 (18:18) against SC DHfK Leipzig on Saturday evening. The SG's top scorers were Marko Grgić (9/4), Lasse Møller (7) and Johannes Golla (6).
There was a standing ovation even before kick-off. The SG honored its participants in the European Championship. The North Stand chanted: "Stand up if you are Flensburg!" Leipzig got off to the better start, but had to deal with a red card very early on. Moritz Preuss conceded the red card after a hit to the face against Marko Grgić. The momentum was in the SG's favor. Johannes Golla scored to give them their first lead at 7:6. However, the SG was not really in the flow of the game. Individual mistakes in defense and offense crept in too often. Suddenly, the score was 9:11 and the fans' support was there: "Ole, ole, only SG-W!" Two remarkable substitutions six minutes before the break: Catalin Haidu went between the posts and Kent Robin Tønnesen made his return. For Leipzig, William Bogojevic also received a red card. Catalin Haidu sparked frenetic jubilation when he saved a seven-meter penalty, but was unable to prevent the visitors from equalizing at 18:18 just seconds before the break.
Turned up a gear after 40 minutes
The restart brought a curiosity: Both teams went a full 400 seconds without scoring. An indication of the good defensive work of both teams. In addition, it was now Benjamin Burić who shone with a saved penalty throw. Up front, it was Simon Pytlick who ended the lull. The SG now finally had the upper hand. Lasse Møller completed a 4:0 run to make it 24:20. "Hell North" went wild: "Lasse, shoot yourselves!" Shortly afterwards, there was video evidence for the fourth time that evening - and a red card for the third time. This time it was Niclas Kirkeløkke, who was unable to play the final 15 minutes. Nevertheless, the SG did not let the game get out of hand. Kent Robin Tønnesen scored his first goal in 2026 to make it 30:24. Thilo Knutzen appeared on the pitch in the final phase. He scored to make the final score 36:28.
