A summer break lasts only a few weeks. And even before it begins, plans for the time afterward are already well underway. That’s why SG Flensburg-Handewitt already knows when and how things will continue. The start of the 2026/27 season isn’t that far off.
The SG squad will hold its first practice session on July 17. The SG handball players will spend the first few days taking performance tests and participating in their first training sessions at the Duburghalle and in the weight room. The team bus will set out for the first time on July 22. The destination: Malmö. Accommodations have been booked in southern Sweden for a five-day training camp. Immediately upon their return, medical examinations are scheduled in Damp. The series of exhibition games begins early. It all kicks off at the “Ur-Hölle Nord” in Handewitt, where fans can look forward to a reunion with SAH on July 28. The Danish team from Aarhus faced the SG in the EHF European League this past spring and will compete in the EHF Champions League in the future. This will be followed on August 1 by a brief visit to their partner club, Sønderjyske HH.
Matches in Aue and Eisenach, then the Jacob Cement Cup
: The SG has registered for two high-caliber tournaments. From August 7–9, they’ll be playing at EHV Aue. The third-division club is also delighted to welcome German champion SC Magdeburg and second-division favorite SC DHfK Leipzig. From August 14–16, the SG will be at the Wartburg. First-division club ThSV Eisenach is known for its high-caliber preseason tournament. On August 21, the SG will host its own season opener: After having to move to other venues twice, the Jacob Cement Cup is returning to the GP JOULE Arena. This time, their opponent will be their Swedish partner club, Lugi Lund. Then things will really get serious. The first matchday of the Opel HBL is scheduled for August 27–30. Matchdays two and three will follow in the first week of September. In the DHB Cup, the SG will enter the competition in the second round, which will be held from September 22 to 24. The EHF European League kicks off on September 29.
