The sports medicine check-up at the Damp Rehabilitation Clinic has been an integral part of SG Flensburg-Handewitt’s preseason preparations for years. Ahead of the 2026–27 season, the Bundesliga handball team once again underwent comprehensive internal medicine and cardiology examinations in Damp.
Last Monday, the program at the Cardiology Department and the VITREA Prevention Center included blood tests, lung function tests, resting and stress ECGs, and cardiac ultrasounds, among other procedures. The Prevention Center specializes in preventive medicine and health promotion and supports not only athletes but also companies and private individuals with personalized health programs. The goal of the check-up is to assess the players’ current state of health, identify individual risks early on, and lay an optimal foundation for the physical demands of preseason training and the upcoming season.
“As a long-established health and sports hub in handball-loving Schleswig-Holstein, we are very pleased that SG Flensburg-Handewitt is once again placing its trust in the medical expertise of our Rehaklinik Damp this year,” says Marko Schneider, managing director of Rehaklinik Damp. “This long-standing collaboration is a testament to mutual trust and confirms the high quality of our sports medicine and cardiology care. The fact that elite athletes rely on our expertise underscores the high medical standards we strive to uphold every day for everyone who places their trust in us.”
Holger Glandorf, Managing Director of SG Flensburg-Handewitt, says: “The medical examinations at the Damp Rehabilitation Clinic have been an integral part of our preseason preparation for many years. We know our team is in the best hands there. The combination of sports medicine expertise, modern diagnostics, and personalized care gives us the confidence that we’re starting the new season on a solid medical foundation. We’re very pleased to continue this proven partnership again this year.”
“Among athletes under the age of 35, congenital heart defects and myocarditis are among the most common causes of sudden cardiac death,” explains Dr. Norbert Henke, Chief of Cardiology at the Damp Rehabilitation Clinic. “Regular internal medicine and cardiology examinations are therefore an essential component of prevention. They help detect diseases early and ensure the greatest possible safety for the athletes.”
Dr. Elisabeth Krüsmann, Medical Director of the Prevention Center, adds: “Caring for recreational and competitive athletes has been an important part of our work for many years. The high demands of elite sports serve as a key driver for us to continuously refine our diagnostic procedures and prevention strategies. This expertise benefits not only professional athletes, sports clubs, and individuals, but also the companies we support with our prevention programs to sustainably promote the health and performance of their employees. We are therefore all the more pleased to once again be able to accompany SG Flensburg-Handewitt on its journey through preseason training this year.”
