The SG Flensburg-Handewitt had to admit defeat for the first time this season. It lost 31:35 (17:15) to SC Magdeburg in the top game of the DAIKIN HBL. The SG's top scorers were Simon Pytlick (7) and Marko Grgić (7).
In the darkened "Hell North", the fans chanted: "Once Flensburg, always Flensburg!" At 8 p.m., the big moment that everyone had been eagerly awaiting finally arrived: the kick-off of the top-of-the-table game. Domen Novak and Marko Grgić were the first scorers of the handball summit. Kevin Møller set the first goalkeeper accent with a seven-meter save. Johannes Golla produced a spectacular move when he caught a rebound high in the air and hurled the ball into the net as he fell. The "Hell North" went wild, especially as the SG had got off to a very good start. Simon Pytlick hammered the ball under the crossbar to make it 9:5 and a 0:4 negative run quickly pulverized the nice lead. It was now an absolute dance at eye level. The lead changed hands and the crowd whipped the SG forward. The SCM was awarded several seven-meter penalties. It was a good thing that Kevin Møller was able to save another penalty. The last minute before the break was golden. Domen Novak grabbed a rebound with a phenomenal leap into the air and tucked it into the net to make it 16:15. Kevin Møller held on - and the players in front of him were able to mount another positional attack. Simon Pytlick took heart just before the siren. 17:15 - what an emotional walk to the half-time meeting.
Second half went to Magdeburg
A half-time lead is nice, but a two-goal cushion is not even half the battle against Magdeburg. This was also confirmed in "Hell North". Less than four minutes had passed before the score was completely even again. The visitors now had the upper hand. The score was 19:22 after 40 minutes, but the SG did not give up and showed many good things. Johannes Golla scored from the circle to make it 23:24 and the SG was back in contention, as Marko Grgić underlined with another powerful performance. 24:25 - would the game tip again? Unfortunately, no. Aleš Pajović gathered his players around him just a few minutes later. They had fallen behind by four goals for the first time. There was a successful attack immediately after the brief meeting, but Magdeburg then produced another 3:0 run. This top-of-the-table game was no longer winnable.
