January traditionally belongs to the national teams. That's why the SG Flensburg-Handewitt doesn't have its first game in 2026 until February 10. This is the program.
The first training session is already on Monday, January 12. However, Aleš Pajović will probably only be able to welcome Benjamin Burić, Aksel Horgen, Patrick Volz, Blaž Blagotinšek, Thilo Knutzen and the convalescents Kent Robin Tønnesen and Luca Witzke. No fewer than nine SG players are at the European Championships with their national teams. The final game in Herning will be played on February 1st. The SG will return to team training on the following days, but the following weekend will be free of matches. The DAIKIN HBL does not resume until Tuesday, February 10, with match day number 20. The SG will immediately face a challenging fixture against VfL Gummersbach.
The rest of the program
There are two northern duels within 50 hours. First, the SG has to play HSV Hamburg, who are moving to the larger Barclays Arena and are hoping for a large crowd. After the final whistle, the SG will immediately switch competitions, as the EHF European League will host the 114th edition of the national derby on Tuesday, February 17 at 18:45. The game in the GP JOULE Arena against THW Kiel will be for two points, which should improve the starting base for the next rounds on the European stage. The situation is similar on Tuesday, February 24, at 6.45 pm. Montpellier HB will then be visiting "Hell North". Home games initially only have an international flair for the SG. This is because it has to travel three times in a row in the DAIKIN HBL. Gummersbach and Hamburg are followed by HC Erlangen on February 21. The first home game in the DAIKIN HBL will finally take place on Friday, February 27. The opponent is HSG Wetzlar.
