- SG asserted itself in the goal festival

On an international course

SG Flensburg-Handewitt have landed their first win in the main round of the EHF European League. On Tuesday evening, they won 40:35 (21:20) against Montpellier HB and now have 6:2 points on their account. The SG's top scorers were Patrick Volz (9), Niclas Kirkeløkke (8) and Simon Pytlick (7).

The handball evening began without music and a warm-up ceremony - due to a medical emergency on the pitch. Both teams chose a high tempo, then the keepers - Kevin Møller on the SG side - made a few saves before the shooters dominated again. An open exchange of blows developed in which 24 goals had already been scored after 16 minutes. The SG trailed 8:10 at one point. A counter-attack by Patrick Volz, who came on as an early substitute, quickly equalized. The 15:14 goal had a special character: It was the first goal scored by new signing Adin Faljic. Patrick Volz had already scored six times by half-time, including to make it 21:20 at half-time.

The last quarter of an hour went to SG
During the 15-minute break, many wondered whether the defenses would be more effective in the second half. The two teams needed just under three minutes to get going and then the flood of goals continued. It was not one for the defensive players, but rather one for Patrick Volz. The 27:26 was already his ninth goal. Montpellier kept finding solutions and led 31:30 after 44 minutes. Aksel Horgen was now on court, immediately won a ball and made it 33:31 on the counter-attack. Benjamin Burić saved a seven-meter penalty in this important phase and had two or three more valuable actions. The pendulum now tipped in favor of the SG. Simon Pytlick went on a run and made it 37:34 and the SG was in control. Marko Grgić even made it 40.
