Between the DHB Cup and a trip to Romania, the SG Flensburg-Handewitt can play a northern duel in "Hölle Nord". HSV Hamburg is coming on Sunday. Kick-off is at 3 pm.
HSV Hamburg is currently in tenth place in the DAIKIN HBL table, leading the second half of the table. However, their interim record of 11:9 points is far more than mediocre. The last home game offered a taste of how exciting handball can be. After an initially mediocre performance, the ball throwers from the Elbe turned on the heat and beat the more highly rated VfL Gummersbach 31:30 in front of 4870 enthusiastic spectators. "We played close to our best in the second half," said HSV coach Torsten Jansen, clicking his tongue. "That was an incredible commitment in defense and there were far fewer mistakes in offense." A week later, HSV pulled off a 39:38 coup at Füchse Berlin. The Hamburg club also came close to winning points against SC Magdeburg and THW Kiel. And the Rhein-Neckar Löwen were beaten. After the performance in Flensburg, the Hanseatic team will now look ahead to games against teams behind them in the coming weeks. That smells like a good first half of the season. Only the cup slip-up at HC Elbflorenz does not quite fit the picture. "We've developed well and are now ready to beat top teams," says captain Niklas Weller.
Several Danish players from Hamburg
There are now six Danes in the HSV Hamburg squad. Pivot Andreas Magaard, left wing Jacob Lassen, right wing Frederik Bo Andersen and left wing Casper Ulrich Mortensen have been regulars for over three years. In addition to Oliver Norlyk (KIF Kolding), another left-handed player, Nicolaj Jørgensen (Sønderjyske HH) joined the team in the summer. The backcourt ace was the top scorer in the Danish league last season. Austrian playmaker Elias Kofler (1. VfL Potsdam) completes a completely new back line. The Icelandic two-meter-man Einar Olafsson (Fredericia HK) is mainly required as a defense strategist. Another newcomer is the Dutch left wing Kaj Geenen (VfL Lübeck-Schwartau). The best field goal scorer so far is playmaker Moritz Sauter. The goalkeeper pairing of Egyptian Mohamed El-Tayar and Norwegian Robin Haug has proven to be very stable so far.
