The SG Flensburg-Handewitt has extended the contract with coach Ljubomir Vranjes. The 38-year-old Swede who joined the SG in summer 2006 coming from Nordhorn as a player started to work as a coach in 2010. Vranjes has now signed a contract extension that will keep him in Flensburg until 2017.
"Ljubomir Vranjes' philosophy is a perfect fit for the SG Flensburg-Handewitt," SG manager Dierk Schmäschke said. "Our Scandinavian approach has a long tradition. By integrating our own young players and signing Scandinavian internationals, we want to continue to build a successful team here.
You have extended your contract even though the current contract only ran out in 2014. What was the reason?
Ljubomir Vranjes: We have started a project here a couple years ago and we talked a lot about continuity. I want to finish this project and I didn't have to think a lot whether I want to stay here. I have a lot of energy to continue working!
You will stay until 2017...
Ljubomir Vranjes: I'm really happy here. The SG was and is my favourite club. Since 2006, I've been a player, a captain, the team manager and then the coach of this team. I know the club well and my heart is in Flensburg.
Your goal for the 2011/2012 season was to improve. What are your goals after winning the European Cup, reaching the DHB Cup final and finishing in second place?
Ljubomir Vranjes: We don't have to apologise for anything this season. Now we have to keep up this level. It's too early to talk about new goals. Next season there will be new players and that always means new goals.
What do you wish for in the future?
Ljubomir Vranjes: I'm hoping to get the same kind of support that we had this season. And hopefully some patience.
