The SG´s third team is going to play in Germany´s fourth-highest league next season. "It´s no surprise, we´ve worked really hard over the last couple of years", says Rolf Martinsen, manager of the team.
In the 2004/2005 season, the team started with a lot of young players from the SG´s youth teams. The new coach, Shorty Linde, was a good choice as he won the German championship with the SG´s youth team in 2004. He wanted to put together a new team which should play in the upper third of the Bezirksliga and a long-term perspective for promotion to Oberliga.
The first two years were quite hard for the young players as the game was a lot different than it used to be playing against teams their own age. Then, former second-league coach Peter Sellmer took over in 2006, he qualified for the new Landesliga. Here, the SG finished in first place this season.
Hopefully, the success story will go on. Peter Sellmer can´t continue to coach because of personal reasons, but former SG star Rainer Cordes takes over. "It´s nice to come back to the SG", he says. "We want to provide a platform for young players from the region, and we want to take our place in the new league."
